White celadon porcelain vase by Nishikawa Hiroshi

This white porcelain vase (hakuji) is the work of Japanese ceramicist Nishikawa Hiroshi, born in 1958 in Kyoto. He trained at Kyoto University of the Arts and worked under renowned master ceramicists before establishing his own studio, Fukakusa-gama, in 1985. His work, inspired by the nature and landscapes of Kyoto, is distinguished by great formal purity and a deep commitment to Japanese minimalist aesthetics.

This large vase with a beautiful roundness exudes a harmonious and balanced silhouette. Its smooth surface reveals a beautiful celadon shine, highlighting the finesse of the enamel. The total absence of decoration or ornamentation reinforces the purity of the piece, leaving all its expressiveness to the purity of the material and the perfection of the form. This vase is ideal for holding a floral arrangement or for displaying alone as an art object. It is signed (engraved) by the craftsman at its base and is accompanied by its protective box made of paulownia wood (tomobako) on which the artist's name and official seal are affixed, guaranteeing its authenticity. The box is closed with a sanadahimo (braided cord). A protective cloth with the official seal of the ceramist is also included.
