Celadon vase by Sansei Suzuki
This vase by master ceramicist Sansei Suzuki illustrates the excellence and mastery of celadon, of which he is one of the greatest specialists in Japan. It is distinguished by its perfectly balanced rounded shape and its deep blue-green glaze, covered with a network of fine cracks that add to its elegance. The translucency of the enamel highlights the subtleties of the surface, creating an effect of depth and luminosity.
Suzuki san is a specialist in celadon, a demanding technique that requires perfect mastery of the iron content in the clay and control of the atmosphere in the kiln. The very particular color of this vase is obtained through reduction firing, a process during which oxygen is limited in order to reveal this soft and luminous hue. The fineness of the crackle network testifies to exceptional know-how in the application and vitrification of the glaze.
This vase, with a diameter of 14cm and a height of 13cm, is signed (engraving) by the artist at its base. It dates from the 90s and is in very good condition.
Sansei Suzuki (born 1936) is one of the most renowned Japanese ceramists for his work on celadon. Trained by the master Kawamura Seizan, he settled in Odawara (Kanagawa prefecture) where he founded his own kiln. His talent has been rewarded by several distinctions in Japan and his creations are today preserved in prestigious collections, including the British Museum, and have been offered at exceptional national or protocol events.
His works are sought after by collectors for their refined aesthetics, the technical perfection of his glazes and reach several thousand euros on the art market.
This magnificent vase, although devoid of its protective box with the artist's signature and seal, bears an engraving on its base which guarantees its authenticity. It represents a unique opportunity to acquire a piece by a remarkable artist while making a measured investment.
