Natsume (tea box) Japanese urushi lacquer and maki-e gold powder decoration, suisen (daffodils) motif

Sale price€1.300,00

Spectacular, this large natsume (Japanese tea box) was handcrafted using traditional urushi lacquer techniques in a beautiful shiny black applied in several layers to a very light turned wooden container on which was then applied an extraordinary decoration of daffodils (Japanese symbol of joy), with gold powder using the most complicated and sophisticated techniques, maki-e in relief (takamaki-e) and sprinkled gold powder (nashiji). Mother-of-pearl (raden technique) was also applied to some flowers. The interior of the natsume is entirely covered with sprinkled gold powder (nashiji) and is signed by the craftsman.

This natsume was made by the renowned craftsman Takahiro Iwakura , born in 1966 in Kyotō (where he lives), a city famous for the extreme sophistication of its maki-e techniques (gold powder decoration).

This is a unique piece dating from the Heisei era (1989-2019) . It comes with a double protective box: a first box in black lacquered wood and a second box in paulownia wood (tomobako) on which is indicated the name of the craftsman with his official seal, the name of the work, and its braided sanadahimo cord. A protective textile completes the set, also signed (seal) by the craftsman.
