Arita Nabeshima porcelain Kōgō (incense box) with hand-painted flowers

Sale price€120,00

During the Japanese tea ceremony (chadō, the way of tea) a number of highly codified objects are used. Among them is the kōgō ((香合), the small box that holds the incense that will be used during the ceremony. In its lacquered wooden version the kōgō is used for the kōboku, the small pieces of incense wood, and in its ceramic version, like this one, the kōgō is used to present the nerikō, the rolled scented beads.

This kōgō is contemporary, in precious Nabeshima porcelain, one of the most precious in Arita, softly rounded and decorated with hand-painted flowers in classic Imari-yaki porcelain colours: cobalt blue, red, green, yellow, which stand out wonderfully against the immaculate whiteness.

The porcelain box is signed on its base, and is presented in a protective wooden box, on which is marked the name of the artisan, the name of the object (kōgō) and the kamon (seal) of Nabeshima porcelain.

Wonderfully decorative, this little box will add a delicate Japanese touch while housing a few treasures.
