Japanese washi and indigo paper art piece #1

Sale price€180,00

A beautiful encounter with Nakamura san, met in Shikoku island. He lives and works in a very isolated mountain area and, using only mulberry fibres, herbs found near his home and natural indigo dye, he creates works of beautiful poetry.

He begins by making Japanese washi paper in the traditional way, from the bark of the mulberry tree, mountain water, snow and sun to bring out the whiteness. It's a slow, patient process in which he also incorporates mulberry bark fibres previously dyed with natural indigo (which he prepares himself) and pieces of grass, the whole forming geometric and organic patterns, an ode to nature and the perfection of craftsmanship. The result is an exceptional work of contemporary art, a reminder that in Japan there is no need to differentiate between art and craft.

Each piece is unique, both in its motif and in the thickness of the paper used. Here the paper is very thick. To be framed (frame not supplied) and hung on a wall.
