Cobalt glazed blue Japanese ceramic tray/plate

A heavy rectangular dinner plate with a beautiful patina and a muted blue. This is the work of the founding ceramists of the Tokinoha Studio, based in Yamashina just east of Kyoto, who work in their collective workshop on elegant, everyday ceramics, handmade in small series, each piece being unique. To obtain this blue and texture the potter added a little cobalt, which is difficult to work with, giving a matt and slightly rough mineral appearance. By absorbing the oil from the food you will eventually put on this plate, it will take on a more and more beautiful, slightly shiny patina.

The result is a precious object for everyday use, to be used in the kitchen or in decoration, as a plate or a presentation tray, a wabi sabi spirit that will bring all the delicate beauty of Japanese craftsmanship into your home.
