Natsume (tea caddy) Japanese urushi lacquer and maki-e gold powder decor, hana (flowers) motif

Sale price€1.200,00

Masterpiece of Ikko Kiyose, a master lacquer artist from Kanazawa, this spectacular natsume is hand-crafted using traditional techniques of beautiful black urushi lacquer applied in several layers to a very light turned wooden container, to which a fabulous floral decoration (hana) has then been applied.

The gold powder decoration covers the entire natsume, the artist having used several maki-e techniques to create this piece: flowers in takamaki-e (raised lacquer) and hiramaki-e (flat-relief lacquer) as well as nashiji (sprinkled gold powder) in shading over the black lacquer on the outside and covering the entire inside.

This natsume was made by craftsman Ikko Kiyose;

It is a unique example dating from the Shōwa era (1926-1989). The natsume is protected by a custom-made shifuku, a silk pouch bound by a braided cord, a rare protection that indicates the exceptional quality of this piece;

It is also accompanied by a double protective box (tomobako), a smaller one made of paulownia wood bearing the name of the craftsman with his official seal and his braided sanadahimo cord, and a second, slightly larger one made of lacquered cedar wood and held together by another sanadahimo cord.
